Perak Island west of Penang in the middle of the northern Malacca Strait offers the best GT popper casting and jigging action in Penisular Malaysia. Giant Trevally over 100 lb have been caught on our boat at Palau Perak. The island is teeming with fish because of its geographical features. The meeting of the two currents – from the Straits of Malacca and the Andaman Sea – the rocky terrain around the island and the abundance of baitfish attracts big pelagic predators like: Black Marlin, Sailfish, Giant Trevally, Wahoo, Dorado, Amberjack, Narrow barred Spanish Mackerel, Yellowfin and Dogtooth Tuna. Groupers, Snappers and other bottom dwellers are also plentifull here. We do 3 day/2 night long trips to Palau Perak with departure from Penang for up to 4 anglers. We include all fishing equipments in the trip - quality rods, reels, poppers, jigs and all terminal tackle needed, so you don't need to carry heavy fishing gear on the flight to Penang from your home. Palau Perak is protected from both the southwest monsoon and the northeast monsoon from Sumatra and from Penisular Malaysia and can be fished all year round.

The two most popular ways of fishing around Palau Perak are jigging and casting. These methods provide plenty of excitement and challenges for all anglers. For jigging, metal jigs and spoons are normally used while casting sees anglers on stick baits or poppers. On the way out to Palau Perak we stop at different FAD'S to catch bait fish such as kembong, sardines and Sekla (Yellowtail Scad) and we also catch squid at night for use as live-bait. You can fish for Dorado and Narrow Barred Spanish Mackrel at the FAD's on the way out to Perak Island if you wish. The vessel we use got big live-bait tanks for keeping an ample supply of live-bait for the whole trip. Drifting live-bait or baloon fishing live-bait can result in a marlin, Sailfish, Narrow Barred Spanish Mackerel, Dorado and Wahoo hook-up close to the island and live-bait fishing night time can produce spectacular action for multi species. Bottom fishing around the island at night with baited hooks is also very productive and can produce big Cobia, Groupers, Snappers and Diamond Trevally and many other hard fighting fish species.

We use a custom built 50ft fiberglass boat for the Perak trips, the vessel is powered by twin 300 hp Suzuki 4 stroke low emission outboard engines. The boat is fast and stable with ample sunshade and got a marine toilet, shower and bunks for 4 anglers plus crew. GPS navigation systems, VHF radios, Fish finders, livebait tanks, life jackets, and first aid kits are standard on the boat and the crew are fully licensed to operate in Malaysian waters. The vessel got a walk-around cabin that makes it easier fighting big fish and a custom made casting and jigging platform at the stern and also a big area in the front for popper casting that makes it possible for 3-4 anglers to cast poppers at the same time.
